Alto Saxophone

While attending Berklee College of Music, I utilized my time to transcribe saxophone solos during my private study of the alto saxophone. These solos are available in pdf format as well as print selections from MusicNotes.com where sheet music creators like me are Featured Artists.

After selling 100’s of saxophone sheet music transcriptions, I have been able to filter out which solos were the top 10 selling Alto Saxophone Solos. Here is the list of the best alto saxophone solos that I have accumulated from my library of alto sax transcriptions.

Songs like Careless Whisper by George Michael, Smooth Operator by Sade, and solos by Clarence Clemons are not included in this list because the saxophone players performed those solos on a Tenor Saxophone, NOT an Alto Saxophone.

Thankfully, while there are some high notes, none of these solos are in an altissimo register in the most famous saxophone solos found here.

Please enjoy each music video which includes a variety of jazz, rock, and pop alto saxophone solos.

#1 Turn the Page

This is one of the first saxophone solos that made a huge impact on me. It was very well known by my friends and family.

It was the perfect song to impress my friends and family when I could play the simple intro, which is the most recognizable part of the whole song.

#2 You Belong to the City

While the sax solo is a great introduction to this song, I honestly didn't know about this solo until I was deep into my saxophone transcriptions.

I was surprised to find out that this solo soon became one of my best sellers as far as alto saxophone sheet music transcriptions go.

#3 Just The Way You Are

A classic that I've known ever since my cousin asked for me to play it during her wedding.

An absolute tear jerker that warms the heart everytime you hear it.

#4 Lily Was Here

I was never a big fan of Candy Dulfer, however, her hallmark solo in "Lily Was Here" is a signature solo to be remembered.

#5 Baker Street

I'm surprised this solo isn't higher on the list. Surely it's one of the most popular alto sax solos and its legacy will always be remembered.

#6 Jubel

Jubel by Klingande is a pop music song by a lesser known band, however they have produced enjoyable electronic and saxophone music. I encourage everyone to give them a listen.

Very fun music to listen to!

#7 Take 5

After performing this jazz standard and solo during my audition to Berklee College of Music, I was accepted! The time signature is tricky especially if you are to solo over it.

Dave Brubeck mastered this jazz saxophone solo which remains a legendary piece. It requires a higher skill level for this sax solo.

#8 Harlem Nocturne

Sonny Stitt played an amazing version of this song which is often difficult to find on the internet. This is by far one of my favorite jazz saxophone solos of all-time.

#9 Never Tear Us Apart

INXS is a beloved group. I was scorned many times after I notoriously mispronounced the bands name in one of my video lesson videos.

Now, I will never forget how to pronounce the name of the ensemble.

#10 Misty

This was the first alto saxophone solo I performed on YouTube that won exceptional popularity for my channel. It was once my highest viewed video in the first 5 years or more of my YouTube content career.
